Review of The Spiral Down by Aly Martinez

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

In this book we meet Evan Roth and we get more from Henry Alexander who we met it The Fall Up.

Gay, Straight, Bi-sexual, Homosexual, Heterosexual do these titles define us or are they just labels that we are given to put is into a box? In this book Evan Roth asks that question and through out this book it will make you wonder are we looking at the person or the label?

Henry is a gay man and he is proud to be out in the open about this but his one weakness straight men. Henry isn't looking for just any man to be with he is looking for a man that he in his idea brought over to the other side. There are things about Henry's past that help us to understand why he is the way he is. Why he was so protective of Levee in The Fall Up and why he is still so attached to her even though she is married. Henry isn't defined by his label but in a way he is and you will find that out when he meets Evan. Can Henry put down his ideals of who he should be with to find love might be right in front of him?

Evan Roth is a man who hates labels people are people you are attracted to some and not to others. This is the way he sees it but Evan also has a past one he isn't always willing to share with others. Evan is bi-sexual or that is the label he has put on himself but he was once a gay man when that ended badly he decided to forgo the labels and just find love not a specific gender. When Evan first meets Henry there is a part of him that is attracted to him there is another part of him that sees him as a spoiled celebrity. The more he gets to know him though the more he finds himself attracted to him. Can Evan get over his past and open up to the possibility of a man really being his future?

This book is amazing in the first one we are taken on a journey through the mind, in this one it is still a journey through the mind it is just what society defines how we should be seen. I like the open idealism of Evan and how he is more grounded then Henry. In this couple we find the perfect Ying and Yang. This book will have you from the first word to the very end. It will be one of those stories you will want to lock the door, shut off the ringer, send the kids away, and forgo sleep it till you read the last words The End. It will make you laugh it will make you cry but it is an absolute must read. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
